A Wonderful Honor on the Occasion of Retirement

After my retirement, my colleague Ralf Portner, a professor at the Hamburg University of Technology, contacted me to inform me of his desire to publish a tribute book in my honor and on the occasion of my retirement after forty-five years of scientific activity. I was enthusiastic about this project and expressed my readiness to cooperate with him. The project was successfully completed with the book published by Springer, titled: "Cell Culture Engineering and Technology—In Appreciation to Professor Mohamed Al-Rubeai."

The book was edited by Ralf Portner, with contributions from sixty scientists and industrial experts, including some of my former students and colleagues, who authored seventeen chapters on cell culture engineering and technology and biopharmaceuticals, confirming many of the discoveries and essential contributions I made in the fields of cell culture engineering, stem cells, and drug production, on which basis I was considered the "founding father of the biopharmaceutical industry in the United Kingdom, and the catalyst for its development in Ireland," as Professor Portner affirmed in the book's introduction.
